Experience the Healing Power of Cupping Therapy
How to Harness Your Body’s True Healing Potential
Your Complete Resource for Cupping Treatment in Colorado Springs
Massage cupping uses vacuum therapy and mild suction through cups, usually made of silicone or plastic. When the cups pull at your skin and muscle that means your cupping therapy is working by increasing blood flow to the area. Cups are typically held in place for about 10 to 15 minutes. Absolute Body Balance offers:
Cupping Spot Treatment $20
Cupping Full Body Treatment $30
Chinese Cupping Renews Your Energy and Vitality
Holistic Healing for Your Body and Mind
Chinese culture has used cupping therapy for thousands of years. They found that by creating suction on the skin, it releases toxins deep in the body while stimulating the flow of vital energy (or Qi) through the body. It uniquely promotes relaxation and relief from muscle tension by increasing blood flow to the targeted areas while also improving circulation and reducing inflammation — leaving you feeling rejuvenated and revitalized.
Your cupping treatment brings relief from:
- Painful sports-related injuries
- The negative effects of stress
- Release new and old scar tissue

Answers to Your Cupping Massage Questions
What is cupping massage?
While massage works by compressing the muscle tissue, cupping works by lifting the tissues. The suction used in our cupping therapy creates a negative pressure or a decrease in atmospheric pressure that allows your body tissue to be lifted upward increasing nourishing blood flow to the area. By increasing the space between your muscles and other structures (like nerves and bones), cupping therapy is thought to release adhesions in soft tissues (knots), increase blood and lymph circulation, and decrease inflammation.
Who can receive cupping therapy?
While cupping massage is generally safe for most people, it is not recommended for anyone four years or younger or 55 years or older due to the fragility of your skin. It is also not advised during pregnancy. Cupping has been reported to be effective for the following conditions:
- Relieve muscle and joint pain
- Decrease chronic and acute inflammation
- Decrease neck pain, migraines, fatigue
- Reduce scar tissue
- Boost skin health
- Reduce cellulite
- Clear congestion and increase respiratory function
- Improve digestion
What can I expect during a cupping therapy session?
The most apparent side effect of cupping therapy is circular discolorations left on the skin known as “petechiae”. These are, in fact, not bruises and will not feel like bruising. Bruising is caused by a trauma that injures the muscles fibers while the discoloration from cupping is due to the blood being drawn up towards the surface of the skin. Anecdotal research suggests that the look and appearance of these marks will decrease as the area flushes toxins with repeated treatment. The marks should dissipate within two weeks post treatment.
How long do the effects of cupping have on my skin?
The marks on your skin won’t last forever and should never be uncomfortable. Any discoloration or skin irritation will heal on its own in about seven to ten days two week maximum. Some circles of coloration may be darker than others, depending on what part of your body is undergoing cupping treatment. Note that you might feel tired overall a day after your cupping therapy in Colorado Springs. This is just a temporary reaction by your body’s immune system to the cellular waste released during your spot or full-body cupping treatment.
Can I receive a cupping massage without the circular discolorations?
Yes! Communicate with your cupping therapist if you prefer to avoid having marks after your cupping therapy session. Rather than leaving the cups stagnant on your skin, your therapist will move the cups continuously to prevent the blood from being pulled to the skin’s surface. You will still gain benefits from cupping performed this way. However, the results may vary with other side effects, including:
- Skin infection/irritation
- Dizzy/lightheadedness
- Mild discomfort where the cups touched the skin
- Bruising that will fade quickly with a bit of time
Should I drink more water before or after cupping?
Because cupping dramatically increases your body’s circulation, you’ll need to increase your water intake before as well as after your cupping therapy. Attending your cupping therapy session hydrated will lead to the best results and fewer negative side effects especially if you’re using a spot or full-body cupping treatment to enhance your deep tissue massage. Drinking water helps smooth out the process and makes you feel more replenished. (If you start to feel cold, that’s normal, too. Warm up with a cozy cup of tea or your favorite blanket.)
How old is cupping therapy?
Cupping therapy isn’t a new-age technique. It has deep-rooted roots that date back thousands of years. Cupping actually dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. It can be traced back as far as 1,550 B.C. as one of the oldest treatment traditions or interventions still used today. Chinese health practitioners have used it to help ease lung conditions, fevers, and other health issues. Cupping in Colorado Springs aims to remove stagnation in your body and its associated pain. It’s gained popularity over the years, largely due to Michael Phelps in the Olympics sporting the classic cupping circles. (Other celebrities and athletes love cupping too!)
